Lagos is a bustling, economic powerhouse and in fact, the largest city in Africa. This is the cultural centre of Nigeria and home to Nollywood, Africa’s most popular film industry. The city is surrounded by the sea and was actually named after the Portuguese word for lagoon. It’s full of people, cars and pollution, but boasts a vibrant and varied architectural landscape, not to mention a warm and eclectic local scene.
The city of Lagos is not an extremely popular holiday destination due to many years of civil war and dictatorships, but most tourists visit between January and October. From April to October is the wet season, which makes it the best time to find cheap flights.
Transport from airport to city:
A shuttle is the best way to travel from the airport to Lagos city centre. Most hotels will offer airport transfers, so enquire about that when you make your booking with them. There is also the option of taking a tax, but check your driver’s credentials before you allow them to transport you to your destination.
